THE WEEK IN A WORLD MAP _ lun. 5.03.2012

1 - YEMEN - 27 Febbraio 2012.

YEMEN - 27th February 2012. The outgoing yemeni president, Ali Abdallah Saleh, has officially passed the powers and offices to his succeeder, Abd Rabbo Mansour Hadi, after a leading of 33 years at the head of the country. The new president is an important member of the same party as the Ali Abdallah Saleh’s one, called al-Mo'tamar ash-Sha'by al-'Am, representing the sunni. The transmission of the offices took place during a ceremony in the presidential palace of Sana’a, the capital city. “I’m putting the flag of the revolution in secure hands”, said Saleh at the ending of the ceremony, yet conflicts and violences that are following one another in the period before the elections doesn’t induce to think of a serene future for the country.

2 - SRI LANKA - 28 Febbraio 2012.

SRI LANKA - 28th February 2012. Thousands of people all over Sri Lanka went down in the streets to protest against the solution of the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) about suspected abuses committed by government and Tamil rebels during the civil war. The manifestations have been organized directly from the government held by Mahinda Rajpaksa, who has been accused from a report of the UN to be the responsible of the death of like-40 thousands civils in the bombings during the civil war and of incredible violences against intere communities. In the demonstration Hindi, Muslim and Buddhist civils, with monks and government members, met to shout slogans and to adfirm that UN and West Countries have the intentions of interferring in the internal policy of the Country. Actually, there are many indices supporting the UN accuses, as testimoniated by the around-100 thousands people died in the conflict and as denounced from many supporters of the opposite party, who denounce, too, an authoritarianistic adrift of the government.

3 - COREA DEL NORD - 29 Febbraio 2012.

NORTH KOREA - 29th February 2012. The Pyongyang government declares to put the word “end” to the long-range missiles tests and to the nuclear activities of uranium enrichement. The decision has been taken after a meeting happened in Beijing, between USA government members and the representants of the Kim Jong-Un regimen. The deal asks to stop the nuclear challenge, with the all-clear for the return of the international inspectors monitorating the situation in the north-korean centrals, in exchange with food supplies from the USA. The American side declares to be satisfied, considering the deal “a positive first step aiming the complete and verifyable denuclearization of the korean peninsula”, however it’s necessary to be very prudent, seeing the all-time-long shifty intentions of North Korea.

4 - SUDAN - 1 Marzo 2012.

SUDAN - 1st March 2012. Staying at the words of the South-Sudan functionaries, a great number of sudanese troops should have been concentrated in a boarding city of Sudan. Moreover, two army planes should have dropped six bombs in the Pariang county, destroying two oil wells and causing the polluting of pourable water in the region. The sudanese authorities have replied with a “no-comment” to the south-sudanese charges. The two states have split in July of the last year, but many controversed questions are still left over, aslike the boarding trace and the division of the oil earnings. The danger is that the conflicts will come back to light, as happened in the last 40 years.

5 - PAKISTAN - 2 Marzo 2012.

MYANMAR - 3rd March 2012. In Mandalay, the second city of the country, dozens of thousands of people have welcame the arrival of Aung San Suu Kyi for an electoral meeting. Myanmar is one month far from the elections, the firsts to wich the year 1991 Nobel for Peace will be allowed to participate, after being convicted for 15 years from the militar government heading the country. The woman, considered as one of the world icons of civil engagement and freedom, has been followed from the airport to the city center by hundreds of cheering vehicles. The winning of San Suu Kyi is very probable, now that the regimen has decided to take a democratical shift, however the unknowns (first of all about the future regularity of the elections) leave the scenario opened to any result.

THE WEEK IN A WORLD MAP _ lun. 27.02.2012

1 - YEMEN - 20 Febbraio 2012.

However, plenty of clashes between law enforcement agencies and civilians had been registered in the last period, and the general situation preceeding elections is still very hot. The death of a militar agent in the gunfire successed to the attempt confirms this atmosphere.

2 - SOMALIA - 21 Febbraio 2012.

SYRIA – 22 February 2012. the syrian army troops, since months occupied on  repressing in the blood the protest movements claiming against the president Bashar al Assad, have bombed a press center organized from the rebels in Homs City.

The tension between the faithfuls of the two different cults, the Shiite and the Sunni, grew up from the leaving of American soldiers in December.

6 - AFGHANISTAN - 24 Febbraio 2012.

The violent protest from the palestinians in largely motivated from the words of Moshe Feiglin, leader of the Manhigut Yehudit (extreme-right wing party) who, in the first part of February, had invited all of his supporters to break-in to the clearing ground to “clean it up from Muslims”. Some followers of the party, in the last days, effectively went to the Mount of the Temple provoking the mulslim faithfuls.
