THE WEEK IN A WORLD MAP _ lun 02.07.2012

1 - SIRIA - 25 Giugno 2012.

SYRIA - June 25th, 2012. After the already precarious political balance in recent times between Syria and Turkey, the ratios are expected to become increasingly more tense. This morning, in fact, the Syrian air defense forces opened fire on a military turkish jet who was brought in international airspace. The demolition of the aircraft was justified by the Syrian government stating that in reality it had already crossed the Syrian border, while Ankara has responded immediately that tough sanctions will be taken against Syria, even invoking the intervention of NATO so that punitive measures will be taken internationally against the Assad regime.

2 - SOMALIA - 26 Giugno 2012.

SOMALIA - June 26, 2012. Yet another clash between government forces and militants of the terrorist group Shabaab. It occurred this morning in the city of Badhadhe, in the Lower Juba, between the Islamic militants of al Shabaab and allied Somali and Kenyan: at least eight dead, dozens injured. The battle erupted after the fundamentalists attacked with grenades and machine guns to the Kenyan military bases in Badhadhe, a city on the border between Somalia and Kenya, about 180 kilometers south of the stronghold of al Shabaab, Kismayo.

3 - BANGLADESH - 27 Giugno 2012.

The civil defense and the army intervened in particular in remote areas of Lama and Naikhanchhari of Bandarban district, where the difficulties were greater.

4 - IRAQ - 28 Giugno 2012.

MALI - July 1, 2012. The destructive fury of fundamentalist Islamic extremist group Ansar Dine has now begun to demolish other mausoleums of Muslim saints in the mythical city of Timbuktu, after having destroyed three yesterday. A dozen members of Ansar Dine, armed with picks and chisels, gathered at the cemetery Djingareyber, south of Timbuktu, where there are at least three mausoleums. The group linked to Al Qaeda would be able to keep the country united but to impose a theocracy based on Sharia law. The government has appealed to the UN so that it can even help eradicate the problem, because the city is a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, receiving the support of Ban Ki-Moon.
